We are way behind with keeping you up to date on Brian's Gyrfalcon production line - we have lots of pictures to post however so hang in there - we have nine super Gyr's so far!

So here are some updated pictures of Brian and his Falcons. As you can see they have grown since the last time pictures were published. Brian is usually here at 7am preparing food. You can catch him feeding and flying the falcons between 9:30am-1:30pm. We'll be publishing some photos of feeding and flying later on in the week for those of you who are interested. Hope you enjoy them!

Seven Gyrfalcon eggs!

Brian gave me an updated me on the number of Gyrfalcon eggs that have been laid so far -- SEVEN!

First two eggs

No picture to post this time but we can report that the first two Gyrfalcon eggs have been laid, one on March 16th and the second one today.

....four falcons found new homes

The four falcons referred to in the previous Blog have been purchased so are no longer for sale.
Brian is now getting everything ready for the EVR falcons to lay more eggs starting in April. The pairs have already started to get cozy with each other and making a start at putting a nest together on the nesting ledge provided for them.
Brian reckons that the falcons will produce from 6 to 14 eggs this year.
We will keep you up to date on the progress at the Mews

Change of plans

We had four fine gyrfalcons destined for Scotland but alas, due to unforseen circumstances, they will be staying at Echo Valley Ranch for awhile longer.
The two shown together, brother and sister, are relatively dark in colour and will probably produce black falcons if paired right. The other photo is of a another fine gyrfalcon.
The fourth gyrfalcon is in the same Mews but I was unable to get a photo of it.
If there are any falconers looking in who are interested in these birds please do let us know.

There is a whole bundle of things that we could write about here because we continue to go through the tedious task of complying with the "authorities" requirements before we can ship our falcons to the ECC. We have spent several months on this so far - we have four fine falcons to ship to Gary Wall in Scotland and it is incredible how many obstacles have been placed in our way.
Well, that's life in the falcon world - even out here at Echo Valley Ranch :(.

Gyrfalcon back from flight

Brian Davies has just finished flying this gyrfalcon to the lure and is now giving it a reward (...can you see the reward?). Brian flew three falcons this morning and we made some videos of them in flight, including one in hot pursuit of a flock of pigeons.

This is one of the falcons hatched last year at Echo Valley Ranch which we are considering keeping for breeding stock. In the mean time Brian is flying it to the lure every day.

These are two of the falcons that paired up two years ago at Echo Valley Ranch and have been excellent producers of fine looking gyrfalcons. The nights have started to get shorter now and their is a lot of chatter between these two - anybody like to take a guess at when the first egg will be laid?
